Negotiations for Kosovo’s integration into the EU Roam Like at Home zone are opened

Minister of Digitalization and Public Administration, Lulëzon Jagxhiu, participated in the ministerial meeting of the Western Balkan countries with the European Commission, where the advancement of the process for the integration of the region into the EU Roam Like at Home area was discussed.

During the meeting, the decision of the Council of the European Union to authorize the opening of negotiations with the Western Balkan countries was welcomed, an important step towards the abolition of roaming fees between Kosovo and EU countries.

Minister Jagxhiu emphasized Kosovo’s readiness and commitment to advance this process as soon as possible, underlining that the country’s institutions have already begun preparations to meet the requirements related to the implementation of the European Union’s roaming regulations.

He announced that the new Draft Law on Electronic Communications, which transposes the European Electronic Communications Code and creates the basis for the implementation of EU roaming rules, has been drafted and will soon be subject to public consultation. In parallel, RAEPC has started preparing the secondary legislation necessary for the full implementation of this framework.

Integration into the EU Roam Like at Home area will enable Kosovo citizens traveling to EU countries for work, studies, tourism or family visits to communicate without additional roaming costs. The Kosovar diaspora will also benefit, as they will be able to use mobile telephony services without roaming fees during their visits to Kosovo.

The expansion of the EU Roam Like at Home area to Kosovo and other Western Balkan countries is a concrete example of the benefits that gradual integration into the European Union’s Single Market brings, offering tangible benefits to citizens even before full accession.
