Minister Lulëzon Jagxhiu began his visit to Japan with a meeting at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), where he was received by the Director for the Middle East and Europe, Kotaro Tanaka. In this meeting, where he was accompanied by the Ambassador of Kosovo to Japan, Sabri Kicmari, the excellent cooperation between Kosovo and JICA was confirmed, as well as the common will to continue and deepen it.
Minister Jagxhiu thanked Director Tanaka for JICA’s continued support to Kosovo, from areas such as waste management, addressing air pollution and food security, to digital transformation, which has been intensifying in recent years. Many civil servants have gone through the Knowledge Co-Creation Program, and then the Digital Academy Program offered by JICA. The current National Forest Fire Information System project, supported by JICA, is enabling capacity building for disaster risk reduction.
During the meeting, Minister Jagxhiu presented the portfolio of the Ministry of Digitalization and Public Administration, the progress and plans in digital transformation and cybersecurity, focusing on the key reforms and initiatives undertaken. He emphasized the aim that digital transformation creates benefits for all social categories without distinction, and that no one is left behind on this journey.
The parties discussed deepening cooperation in digital transformation and public administration reform, advancing and linking development and economic cooperation between our countries. The importance of these reforms in the context of Kosovo’s European integration aspirations, which JICA supports, was also emphasized. Exchanges with the JICA Digital Transformation DXLab, which have already begun, can provide a valuable contribution to this journey, from advancing digital public infrastructure to digital health.
