Separate meetings with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and Japan Overseas Investment Institute (JOI) confirmed the mutual willingness to increase economic cooperation between the two countries with a focus on the ICT sector.
At the meeting of the Minister of Digitalization and Public Administration, Mr. Lulëzon Jagxhiu, hosted by the President, Susumu Kataoka, at JETRO, the willingness of Japanese businesses to explore investment opportunities in Kosovo was confirmed.
The organized visit to Kosovo of a group of Japanese companies in November last year was an important step in this direction, while the J-Bridge platform represents a good mechanism for connecting businesses in both countries.
At Keidanren, known as the most influential association of Japanese businesses, which also represents over 1,000 large Japanese businesses, Minister Jagxhiu met with the delegation led by Yoji Saito, Global Chief Advisor at Mitsubishi Electric.
The businesses present expressed particular interest in digitalization in the Kosovo economy, in particular in the financial sector, our legislation in the field of data management, and investments in infrastructure.
Meanwhile, at JOI, which is a strategic platform that connects Japanese investors with international opportunities, our team was welcomed by the President, Kenichiro Hayashi.
There, they discussed concrete actions through which Japanese businesses can be informed about Kosovo and the potential for economic cooperation in many sectors.
During these meetings, Minister Jagxhiu presented Kosovo’s economic progress and the advantages that Kosovo offers in doing business. He also highlighted the rapid development of the ICT sector in Kosovo, the potential that our youth offer in this field, the work that is being done in developing the innovation ecosystem, and the reforms and initiatives for digital transformation in government and the economy.
Minister Jagxhiu invited Japanese organizations and companies to visit Kosovo to continue the dialogue for cooperation with our government and businesses in the field of ICT.
Consequently, it was agreed to organise this fall a visit to Kosovo of Japanese companies in this field, with the idea of being present during OctoberTech.
OctoberTech is a joint initiative of our government and the private sector to support the 3 most important technology events in the country: KOSICT, Doku.Tech and Growth Tank..
