The Minister of Digitalisation and Public Administration, Lulëzon Jagxhiu, met with the Chief Executive Officer of the Telecom of Kosovo, Burbuqe Hana, to discuss the Government’s priorities in the field of electronic communications and strategic projects aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure in support of Kosovo’s digital transformation.
Minister Jagxhiu briefed the Chief Executive Officer on the areas of responsibility and priorities of the Ministry of Digitalisation and Public Administration, which is now also responsible for developing policies in the fields of electronic communications and postal services. He emphasised the importance of adopting the new Law on Electronic Communications, which has been drafted and will soon be released for public consultation. The law will align Kosovo’s legislation with the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC) and enable the transposition of the European Union Gigabit Infrastructure Act (GIA), in line with Kosovo’s commitments under the Reform Agenda.
The meeting also covered the project under the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) for the expansion of Very High Capacity Networks (VHCN), as well as the World Bank-funded project to expand 5G network coverage along the country’s main transport corridors.
Particular attention was given to cybersecurity and the importance of implementing security measures by operators of critical infrastructure, in accordance with the obligations arising from the Law on Cybersecurity.
The discussion also addressed the negotiations and preparations for Kosovo’s participation in the European Union’s “EU Roam Like at Home” initiative. Minister Jagxhiu emphasised that this process, which will eliminate roaming charges between Kosovo and EU Member States, represents an important step towards European integration and will bring direct benefits to the citizens of Kosovo.
